2016 Election Filing Information


The following municipal seats will be up for election in the 2016 election cycle:

  • Mayor (2 year term)
  • Council seat (4 year term currently filled by Councilmember Winnick)
  • Council seat (4 year term currently filled by Councilmember Weber)
The filing period for these municipal seats closed on August 16, 2016. The Candidate filings list contains the names of those who have filed for office in the City of Forest Lake. A full listing of all candidates statewide can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State website.

Voting Eligibility


To be eligible to vote in Minnesota you must:
  • Be at least 18 years old on Election Day
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Have resided in Minnesota for 20 days immediately preceding Election Day
  • Have any felony conviction record discharged, expired or completed
  • Not be under court-ordered guardianship where a court has revoked your voting rights
  • Not have been ruled legally incompetent by a court of law

Registering to Vote


Information on how to register to vote can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State's website. If you have voted previously in Forest Lake during the past 4 years you are already registered to vote. Moved since you last voted? You will need to update your registration.

Absentee Voting


Any eligible voter can vote early by using an absentee ballot, instead of voting in person at the polling place on Election Day. Voters can vote absentee by mail, in person, or by having a person you know pick up and deliver your ballot for you. 

You may apply online for an absentee ballot through the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office. Access Minnesota Votes for that option.

Absentee ballots are available 46 days before each regularly scheduled Election.
